My name is Julia and I am the teacher behind the blog: Teaching Science in Real Life. When I first started teaching there was so much I didn’t know. I turned to the Internet and found blogs of REAL teachers in REAL classrooms sharing lessons and management strategies that they had tried in their classrooms and they were extremely helpful to me in my first years. I was been inspired by the honestly and helpfulness of those blogs and the encouragement of many others, to start this blog.

I graduated from college with a degree in Broad Field Secondary Science Education and since graduating, have taught the last 4 years at a small(ish) private school teaching Biology, Earth Science, Anatomy, and 7thgrade science depending on the year and needs of the school. I have also coached cross country and track and field but my real passion is teaching high schoolers and improving my teaching practice. My hope is that this blog can offer the same support to you that other blogs have done for me. Here you will find me sharing the lessons and management strategies I use in a secondary classroom, reflect on new things I am trying and learning in my classroom, and sharing my teacher life.

For some background on me, I am a born and raised Wisconsinite (Go Packers!) and I
relocated to Baltimore, Maryland 5 years ago when I got my first teaching job. I love the East coast so much more than I every thought I would. (The mountains and ocean are both within driving distance!) When I am not teaching, I enjoy being outside, running, hiking, reading, and cooking. On an average day you will find me, drinking lots of coffee, hanging out with my husband, trying to squeeze in a run, and watching the news (I would love to teach social studies if I could just teach current events!). Anyway, thank you for stopping by my little corner of the Internet and I hope you find something helpful here!
